Daffodil Climbing Roses Birthday

I’m headed to Wellington, New Zealand today!  I’ll be sightseeing with my husband there for a few days, then moving on to Auckland for more touring before attending Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage Live convention.   I’ll post my sightseeing highlights on my personal Facebook page, and there will be updates from OnStage Live on my Nancy’s Nifty Notes Facebook page…hope you’ll follow along!

Sometimes it’s not the main images of a set that capture my attention, but rather a “supporting” image or coordinating die(s).  This is the case for the Climbing Roses Bundle (Occasions Catalogue p. 9).  The flowers are certainly pretty, but I have many flower stamps in my collection.  I really like the label and trellis dies in the coordinating Rose Trellis Thinlits dies, as well as the trellis-like background stamp in the set.  Once I got my hands on the bundle, however, I soon had to play with the roses, too!

I found strong inspiration for this card from Susan Itell, but made it my own with several changes.

I loved Susan’s scoring along each side of the card, and her use of a centre panel of Designer Series Paper.  I used a piece of Tropical Escape on my card.  I also cut two of the trellis pieces, both out of Wood Textures DSP.  I offset them to add depth, and only attached them in the centre, which allows more depth.

The roses are stamped on Shimmery White cardstock in StazOn Jet Black ink, and then coloured with an AquaPainter and Daffodil Delight and Pear Pizazz ink. The Shimmery White is just enough thicker than Whisper White to make for a great watercoloring experience!  It’s too bad the pictures don’t pick up the shimmer.

The sentiment is from Special Occasions and the die is also part of the Rose Trellis set.  A bow out of the Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack is the finishing touch.

This Climbing Roses bundle will not be carrying over once the Occasions Catalogue is finished in early June…and we’ve been warned  that the dies may be sold out before then.  So if it’s calling to you as it did to me, don’t wait to place your order!  Click on the images below to go directly to my Online Store.
