The other day I found a One Sheet Wonder template and decided to use up some of the retiring Lullaby DSP in my stash. This template showed me how to cut up my 12x12 sheet of DSP to get 10 cards with almost nothing left over. This was a super-fun challenge, because it meant I needed to look at the DSP pieces and decide what to do with them: which stamp set to use, how to layer, emboss or embellish each card. Most of these are for sale in my online store. If you haven't tried Paper Pumpkin, now is a great time to sign up-get 50% off your first two months. This week marks the 2nd anniversary of the Nancy's Nifty Notes blog. While I haven't always met my goal of blogging at least every-other-day, I hope you have found value in my posts. To celebrate I've got 2 different Blog Candy gifts: To be eligible you just need to leave a comment on any post between Thursday, May 20 and Thursday, May 28, including this one! Note: if you're reading this via email please click on the blog post title to go to my actual blog page to comment. I'll draw 2 names from a hat on Friday, May 29, and let you know if you've won! I'm so glad the Hexagon Punch is NOT retiring this year! This Confetti Celebration DSP is, however, so it's fun to use some of it up on this card. The Pistachio Pudding is also one of the retiring 2013-2015 InColors. The sentiment is from the fun Lovely Amazing You photopolymer set released in February. Did you know that Stampin' Up! releases a new photopolymer set each month? You can find them in the New Arrivals section of my Online Store. I really like many of these sets...in fact, we'll be using the Just Kidding set in my class next week. May Classes Registration Deadline is Approaching!Join me to make 5 great projects...including a sneak peek of NEW catalog items! When I need a sympathy card is not when I really feeling like making one...I prefer to have a stash of them on hand. So each month I try to make a couple... This one is CASE'd from Kris Sobolik, and features the Bloom with Hope stamp set. This set will be retiring on June 2, and is a Hostess set. the colors are Blackberry Bliss and Hello Honey. This one was strongly influenced by a card I spotted on Pinterest, but unfortunately only the picture was pinned, and not linked back to a blog, so I don't know who the artist was. It features Perfect Plum and Mossy Meadow, and uses the Flower Shop and Bloom With Hope (leaves) stamp sets, along with the Pansy punch. A few, scattered rhinestones and a sentiment from Wetlands finish it off. The Whisper White card stock measures 8" x 5.25", scored at 4", and then one edge is punched with the Scallop Border punch (retiring - boo!). Here's a quick-and-easy group of cards I made based on an idea I found on Pinterest: These were made using a trio of Sale-A-Bration items...did you manage to score them, too? The stamp set is For Being You, and the Thanks was inked and stamped with one of four InColors (Mossy Meadow, Tangelo Twist, Blackberry Bliss and Lost Lagoon), then stamped 4 times, huffing but not re-inking with each subsequent impression. Then the for all you do was stamped full-strength. The flower was punched with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, and embellished with one of the InColor buttons and Thick Baker's Twine that were also offered during S-A-B. It's hard to see, but at the bottom edge of the InColor card bases there is a line embossed with my Score Board. Don't you think these would be perfect for teacher thank-you's...if you agree you can either make your own or purchase these in my Online Card Shop! A friend asked me to make her a couple of wedding cards. She specified that one of them should reflect that the wedding was being held during October in the Midwest. I used the now-retired Color Me Autumn DSP with the Fall Fest stamps and Framelits. The sentiment is from Tag Talk, which is continuing into the new Annual Catalog. The other had no specifications, so I went with an all silver-and-white theme: I'm sad that the Something Lacy didn't carry over into the new catalog...I'll probably hang onto it and use it some more! Likewise the sentiment set Label Love and it's coordinating Artisan Label Punch are retiring. Both were inked with VersaMark and embossed with Silver Embossing Powder. I paired a piece of White Organza Ribbon and the Silver ⅛" Ribbon for a simple but classy embellishment. This is the time of year I tend to get an flurry of requests for custom cards...usually for graduations. It's fun to make a card that incorporates something about the graduate, as I did in this card: the student was a football player, so I included the school's athletic logo on the "wall of graffiti". I downloaded the logo from the school's website, converted it to grayscale, and positioned it to print where I wanted when I ran the Adventure Bound DSP through my printer. The other words come from the Bravo, @SoSocial, and Crazy for You stamp sets. They are stamped in VersaMark and heat embossed with White, Black and Silver embossing powders. Another request I recently received was from a friend who wanted a birthday card for her daughter that featured lots of glitter and rainbows to reflect an inside joke between the two of them. I made this by nesting my Oval Framelits on a piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper (DDGP) and running it through my Big Shot, which gave me the Red-Blue pieces. The Purple piece was made from the inner oval left by the Framelits, cut out with the Large Oval Punch. Then I used an AquaPainter and re-inkers to color the DDGP, using very little water and a lot of re-inker to get a deep color (the color seeps through and is absorbed by the underlying paper, but is resisted by the glitter itself). Once they'd dried I nested them back together and attached them to a layer of Silver Glimmer Paper that's glued to a Whisper White card base. Finally, I cut the numbers with the Bigz Alphabet Typeset Dies (retired) in DDGP. I felt that numbers were lost without something to ground them, so I cut a second set from Smoky Slate and offset them when I attached them to the Silver Glimmer layer. My friend reported that the birthday girl loved the card and immediately got the joke. Love it! May Classes!Join me to make 5 great projects...including a sneak peek of NEW catalog items! Need a new 2015-2016 Annual Catalog? If you've ordered from me in the last 12 months I will be sending you one. If not, send me an email and I'll get one to you! This is the card I sent my own mom. It's part of the series I talked about in my last post. She loves purple, so I had fun playing around to get lots of purple on here in an interesting way. Interestingly, the base is Blackberry Bliss, but the re-inker I used with my AquaPainter to get this similar color is actually Elegant Eggplant. The Blackberry Bliss re-inker came out much more like Melon Mambo, as you can see in the photo below. Still pretty, but not the look I was going for! If you're still looking for inspiration for your Mother's Day cards, here are a few I've done this year. I'm not showing the one I sent to my mom until this weekend, to make sure she's opened it! This one is note card sized, and was made as part of Connie Stewart's "Stampin' Gals Gone Wild Weekend Challenge" a few weeks ago. I used a bunch of things from the Occasions Catalog: Painted Blooms DSP, Spring Flowers Embossing Folder, and the Butterflies Thinlits. The sentiment is from the still-not-retired and ever-so-versitile Teeny Tiny Wishes set. This is one of the cards that we made at my April class, using Summer Silhouettes, the Large Polka Dot embossing Folder, and a sentiment from the April 2014 Paper Pumpkin kit. Another from my class, this one features the Crazy About You set for images and sentiment, highlighted with "zendoodling" on the images. Thanks again to Connie Stewart for the inspiration and layout, though I changed up the colors. These two are also note card sized, and inspired by a post on Shelli Gardner's blog. It features watercoloring with AquaPainters and re-inkers on watercolor paper. Both cards feature the flower image from Hello Darling stamped in VersaMark and embossed with White Embossing Powder...some of the series I stamped before watercoloring, some I stamped after watercoloring, and I can't remember which is which!
The top card's sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes, and the bottom's is from And Many More. The new, 2015-2017 InColors, have been announced:Not only do you get to see these new colors, but there's a sneak peek of some new product in that picture, too! 2015-2016 Annual CatalogI'm getting ready to order the new Annual Catalogs to send out to my customers.
