Each of the projects in my June class featured products from the new 2016-17 Annual Catalog. We had a lot of fun exploring what they can do!
(Edit: forgot to give credit to Amy O'Neill for this card's design.) This notecard features a suite of products I've shown before, Love and Affection. This time, however, we used the new Copper Embossing Powder to heat-emboss the large flower. This photo catches the shine, but not the rich depth of color. Such a nice addition to the family of embossing powders!
Sliding and spinning bee, oh my! These bees are so stinking cute! We used the new Sliding Star Framelits and the coordinating Shooting Star stamp set to make this card. The (sadly retired) Honeycomb embossing folder was the obvious choice for this interactive card. The framelits do a great job of cutting out not only the slot for the spinning bee, but the large and small bees and the hive as well.
The inside of the card got a fun treatment, too: Christmas in July!

Local news has been publicizing a young man with a life-threatening illness here in Arizona who is hoping to receive 10,000 cards for his birthday in August. A member of my team made us aware of this quest, and here's the card I designed for him: I used the Birthday Fiesta set to stamp this goofy llama/alpaca (how does one tell the difference???) and saguaro cactuses (yes, that is a valid plural for cactus, along with cacti). There are matching Fiesta Time Framelits that made cutting them out a snap, I did trim the arms off one saguaro - not all have arms and it was just a bit to matchy-matchy for my taste. I ripped some Crumb Cake and Sahara Sand card stock to make mountains against the Soft Sky panel. The sentiment on the outside is from Suite Sayings and the one inside (below) is from the Sale-A-Bration 2016 set, Party Pants. If you'd like to add to Jacob's card collection, here's the story and his address: Jacob Priestly PO Box 855 Queen Creek, AZ 85142 Special Class: Christmas in JulyBeat the heat and get a jump start on your holiday cards! One you've already seen, that I used for Glenn's birthday. Here are some others: This takes the same design and just swaps the orange, corrugated card stock for some Silver Glimmer Paper. Same card base, with a Soft Sky panel adhered behind the lattice. I stamped the Happy Birthday, Everyone (retired) sentiment on the crosspiece, and added flowers and leaves cut from the Botanical Builder Framelits. This one uses the other piece of lattice from Glenn's birthday card. I layered a strip of Blushing Bride Glimmer paper between it and a piece of Whisper White, mounted it on a Mint Macaron card base. I then added a sentiment from Badges & Banners that's stamped in Mint Macaron and cut out with the Best Badge punch. Finally, I CASE'd this shaker card from Debbie Henderson. It's a lot of fun and still quite masculine. All of these and I still have a lot of pieces to use! You can see even more ideas for this and all the rest of the Paper Pumpkin kits on my SU - Paper Pumpkin Pinterest board. While it's fun to assemble the kits as designed, it's great to do some other neat projects with them too. Special Class: Christmas in JulyKeep watching this space for all the details to be announced soon! This class will be in addition to my regular Monthly Card Class. Yesterday was Glenn's 50th birthday. He says it's not a big deal, but he wasn't very amused when I gave him the AARP membership card with his name on it that came in the mail a few weeks ago. All four of us went out to a breakfast/brunch/coffee place in central Phoenix that I'd heard about months ago, and agreed it was quite good. In the evening we had his requested birthday dessert, ice cream cake. Instead of purchasing one, I assembled one following tips from The Pioneer Woman, and it came out great! I didn't add the candy she used in hers, but it didn't need it at all. This is the card I made for him, using elements from the May Paper Pumpkin kit, Many Manly Occasions (CASE'd from Julie Davison). Next time I'll show you some other ways I've used this great kit...and not all of them are "manly"! Special Class: Christmas in JulyKeep watching this space for all the details to be announced soon! Here's the fun card I made for my dad for Father's Day:
It's a spinner (a.k.a. slider) card, made using the new Sliding Star Framelits. Instead of using the coordinating stamp set, on this card I elected to use the No Bones About It set. I stamped the dinosaur in Tip Top Taupe, and the footprints in Basic Black Archival ink. The foliage, which is also included in this set, was stamped in Always Artichoke. The sentiment was cut out with a die from the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits, and mounted on a second one (split lengthwise) cut out of Cajun Craze to match the card base. Here's a picture of how I decorated the inside of the card:
And here's SU's video explaining how to use the Sliding Star Framelits:

My June class sessions are next week...so this week I'm making new samples and deciding what should be included. The latest issue of "Stampin' Success," the magazine for Stampin' Up! demonstrators arrived a few days ago. I CASE'd this card right out of it, and am trying to decide if it should be part of the class. What do you think? Do you want to make this next week? Yesterday was my 28th wedding anniversary...blows my mind! Here's the card I made for Glenn:
It's CASE'd from Mindy Backes, for the concept and layout, but I did some changes. It features the Jars of Love stamp set and coordinating Everyday Jars Framelits. The DSP is from Festive Birthday. I love how the "B" side of the themed papers tend to be theme-neutral, making the whole series that much more versatile. The ribbon flags are 2 new products, too: ⅝" Burlap Ribbon and ⅜" Stitched Satin Ribbon in Pool Party.
Glenn's mom was a collector of vintage Mason jars, and a lover of the outdoors, so he spend many childhood evenings chasing or just watching fireflies. It is one of the things we miss here in Arizona. Here's a look at the inside;
The sentiment comes from 2 sets: Jars of Love and Banners for You. I'm looking forward to doing some neat projects with both of these in the coming weeks.

Here's a card I CASE'd from Amy Koenders, though I changed it slightly.
It features 2 awesome sets, the new Painter's Palette and the returning Number of Years. It also shows off two of the new In Colors, Sweet Sugarplum and Flirty Flamingo, as well as the new Copper Embossing Powder.
So summery and cheerful! The precise cutting of the Whisper White square for the "canvas" was so easy using the new Layering Squares Framelits that coordinate with the easel. I see doing a lot more fun projects with these products.

I placed my first order from the new Annual Catalog last Wednesday. I was super eager to get my new goodies, but held off upgrading to expedited shipping. I knew that would mean that my order would be processed a day or two later than those who had upgraded, but with my big rummage sale last weekend decided to save the extra $$. Nicole and I were out-and-about yesterday running errands, when a little boy, maybe 4 years old, approached me at Trader Joe's. "I want to give you a card," he said in a very soft voice. "You want to give me a card?" I repeated back to him, and he nodded and handed me a plain, rust-colored envelope. "You picked the right person to give a card today!" I told him, and explained that I liked to make cards, too. I gave him one of my business cards, because he clearly wasn't interested in looking at all my pictures on my iPhone, LOL! "You should open it at home," he told me. "I drawed a ninja on it." His mom told me he'd made two cards, and had given the other to the librarian earlier that morning. We agreed that it was great fun to give things to people and went our separate ways. When I got home I opened up the card: And there was his ninja. It puts a smile on my face every time I see it on the board in my craft room reserved for cards given to me. I marvel at the timing of this little boy, giving my a handmade card on the eve of the new Stampin' Up! annual catalog. So today is the perfect time to renew our resolve to reach out and touch others with our cards. You don't need to have the latest and greatest products or the absolutely perfect design or execution to affect someone, you just need to do it. That said, look below for a couple of opportunities to get more products, both new and retired! this weekend!Saturday & Sunday, June 4 -5, 2016 9:00 am - 2:00 pm Nancy's Craft Room Scottsdale, AZ Come see awesome new products from the 2016-17 Annual Catalog and enjoy a free make-and-take project.
