Corner Garden Watercolor

Last weekend I spent some time chilling out in my craft room…I wasn’t working on projects for a customer, class, or any other goal, just for me.  So I pulled out a stamp that I’d ordered a while ago but hadn’t had a chance to play with:  Corner Garden (AC p. 129).  I bought it because it reminds me of the images in adult coloring books…and why color just for the heck of it when you can also make it into a pretty card you can send???
I started by stamping the image on a good-sized piece of Watercolor Paper (AC p. 148) in VersaMark, then heat embossing with White Embossing Powder (AC p. 162).  I often like to emboss images that I’m going to watercolor because the slightly raised lines help contain each color.

Next I pulled out my AquaPainter (AC p. 163) and the following ink pads:  Pear Pizazz, Blushing Bride, Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo, Calypso Coral, Pool Party and Wisteria Wonder.   Squeezing the pads before opening them puts a small pool of ink in the lid, where I can mix in as much or little water from the AquaPainter as I want.  My basic watercoloring technique is to put a very light layer of color (more water, less ink), let it dry, then add more layers, sometimes upping the color intensity by putting more ink and less water on my brush.  I try to get good shading and variation, but it’s still a learning process for me.

I added a sentiment from the Birthday Blooms set (OC p. 9).  The image is larger than a standard card front, but I couldn’t bear to trim off too much of my flowers, so my card is oddly sized (5″ x 6″).  Fortunately, the envelope punch board and some Pear Pizzazz Subtles Color Collection Designer Series Paper Stack (AC p. 144) made a perfectly sized envelope.  Someone with a late winter birthday is going to get a very bright and cheerful card!
