Fluffy Cotton

SU!’s Online Extravaganza is Next Week!

Mark your calendar for SU’s Online Extravaganza event next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (20-22 November)!  It’s all hush-hush right now, but we’ll find out more details next Monday.  As soon as I know anything I’ll pass it right along to you….

Here’s the card I made in this week’s Facebook Live session.  You can watch the replay on Facebook or YouTube.

To make this card I pulled out Country Home, which is a stamp set that carried over from last year’s Holiday Catalogue.  I haven’t used it as much as I really have wanted to, perhaps because it feels more autumnal to me and get caught in the inverted seasons we experience here vs. Stampin’ Up!’s other markets and therefore their focus.

Anyhow, on the video you can watch how I coloured in the image with my Stampin’ Blends, using both the light and dark versions of Smoky Slate as well as the Colour Lifter pen to get the shading on the milk can.

I also used a fine paintbrush to dab Snowfall Accents Puff Paint onto the cotton bolls.  Once heated, they really did puff up nicely and look like fluffy cotton!

The puff paint is fun, but there are some tips that make it easier to work with

  • Shake very well before using.
  • It’s a very thin liquid, and comes out of the bottle tip very fast.
  • Even application makes for a more evenly puffed final result.
  • It’s best to have your heat tool right where you are applying the paint, since moving your cardstock can make the thin liquid run where you don’t want it.
  • Don’t overheat the paint, unless you want a toasted marshmallow look.
Here are a couple of cards I made using the puff paint with the Night Before Christmas Memories & More Card Pack.  I applied the paint to the tree with a toothpick, while I was able to apply it straight from the bottle to the trim on Santa’s hat, using the tip to spread it around.

I hope you’ll add a bottle of this fun embellishment to your next order, and then send me pictures of what you make with it!

Here’s what I used to make these cards:
