Mother of Pearl Technique

This is another card we made in my January Monthly Card Class.  I like to have a variety of styles and techniques to share, and this one is a departure from my usual style!  I’m not usually into “vintage” or “shabby chic” styles, preferring a cleaner look.  But this technique is fun and, for a vintage look, pretty clean!

I CASE’d France Martin‘s excellent example from her video tutorial.  She used the Very Vintage host stamp set (Annual Catalogue p. 227), but I don’t own that.  So I went looking for stamps with similar attributes, and found what I needed in Touches of Texture (Annual Catalogue p. 153).  I made a card using Frenchie’s technique and one of the sprays of flowers, but once it was finished I went ahead and made the one pictured above, stamping the sprig of flowers twice.  I found the sentiment in Beautiful Bouquet (AC p. 111).  It’s nice to take an example and use products you already have in your stash to make your own!

This card is really all about layering different colours of ink.  Believe it or not, the image panel started as Whisper White, and winds up looking just right on the Very Vanilla card base.

The finishing touch on this card is the application of Shimmer Paint to give it a wonderful, mother-of-pearl look.  It’s quite subtle when looking at the card normally.  I’ve really worked to capture it in the picture below:
