Sweet Chick Birthday

Picture

I’m back with another card featuring this adorable chick from Honeycomb Happiness, a Sale-A-Bration set that’s only available through March 31 (see details below).  I’ve CASE’d this from Joanne James.  It uses a couple of techniques:  first, I stamped the chick in Sahara Sand ink, in an attempt at no-line watercoloring.  The idea is that the light colored ink will fade into the background, making it look like there are no outlines.  I used an AquaPainter with So Saffron and Daffodil Delight inks, then filled in the eyes with a Project Life Journaling Pen and used a Tangelo Twist marker to color in the eyes, beak and feet.

The second technique is masking.  I stamped the chick on a Post-It note, being sure to get as much of the image over the sticky strip as I could, then cut it right on the outline and placed it over the watercolored chick to mask it while I stamped the floral spray from Number of Years “behind” it.  Then I removed the mask and stamped the second spray of stems and leaves, along with all the flowers.  Finally, I watercolored the grassy hill under and around the chick.

Since I used a piece of Very Vanilla card stock for the image panel, it was pretty wavy once I’d done all that watercoloring, so when it was mostly dry I put it under some books to finish drying overnight and flatten out, then added the sentiment from Endless Birthday Wishes and mounted it on a Wisteria Wonder card base.
