Unicorn Birthday Valentine

I had a request for a custom card to celebrate a 7 year old’s birthday that is on Valentine’s Day. I was told that the birthday girl loves anything with unicorns and glitter/sparkle (natch!) so I immediately thought of CASE’ing my friend Tatiana Tobin‘s card.

I started by stamping the large floral spray from Bloom & Grow on Watercolour Paper with Versamark ink and heat setting it with Gold Embossing Powder.  I used ink refills and an Aquapainter to colour the image, then cut it out with the coordinating Budding Blooms dies.

Tatiana is a great artist and drew her ears before cutting them out freehand.  I am not, so I used 2 sizes of leaf dies from Nature’s Roots to cut out my ears.  I did follow her tips for making the unicorn’s horn – cut the horn in a cone shape then score on the diagonal and cut wedges out at the score marks to make it look spiral.

I also used her tip of Versamark ink refill and a dry Aquapainter to draw the unicorn’s eyes, then heat set with Gold Embossing Powder.  Blushing Bride on a Sponge Dauber made the cheeks.  I added a Rose Glimmer Paper heart cut for a mouth, since my card is doing double-duty for Valentine’s Day.

Here’s the inside of the card.  The birthday sentiment is from Here’s A Card, the ampersand is from Make A Difference, and the Valentine’s Day sentiment is from Heart To Heart.  Birthday images are from Broadway Birthday. Hearts are cut with the Detailed Hearts die from scraps of Glimmer Paper in my stash.

This girl’s dad is so happy that he doesn’t have to choose either a birthday or Valentine’s Day card and write the other message in it.  I’m hoping she’ll be happy with it, too.

Here’s everything I used to make this card:
