Watercolor “Smooshing” part 3

Last week I taught a technique class featuring different methods of transferring ink and water onto paper for backgrounds.  See my first and second examples here and here.

The third try on making watercolored backgrounds by transferring ink from acetate/Window Sheets to paper was very similar to the second, but with the goal of having the color concentrated around the edges and leaving a void in the middle.

My first attempt using Mint Macaron, Soft Sky and Blushing Bride didn’t have enough water spritzed onto the Window Sheet before smooshing the Watercolor Paper onto the ink.  You can see nice blending on the left side, but only dry patches on the right.

Fortunately, the Watercolor Paper is thick enough to just flip it over and try again:

I was happier with these results, and embellished with stamps from Awesomely Artistic stamped in VersaMark and embossed with gold.  It’s mounted on a Mint Macaron card base after a length of Mint Macaron Dotted Lace Trim was tied around it.
On this attempt I spritzed both the Window Sheet and the Watercolor Paper with water before smooshing.  It gave the most blended and almost washed-out look.
I added the little chick from Honeycomb Happiness (SAB p. 15) stamped on Watercolor Paper and colored with an AquaPainter and reinkers.  It’s sitting on a strip of Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper Stack and a piece of Venetian Crochet Trim.  Even though the technique was designed to create the blank spot in the center, in the end I decided to cover it with the chick.  I didn’t add a sentiment as I’m waiting to see if I’ll use it for a new baby, Easter, spring, or a birthday of one of my friends who raises chickens.

March’s kit is going to be shipped in this special, blue box…who knows what goodies it will contain?
