Watercoloured Backgrounds part 2

Another technique from Saturday’s class was adding salt to very wet, inked watercolour paper.
In this example I used an clean Aquapainter to wet the central area of my watercolour paper, then added Balmy Blue and Pear Pizzazz ink, starting each one at the edge of the paper and working my into the page to meet up.  Then I sprinkled large flake sea salt on mostly the Balmy Blue side and set it aside to dry.  Once it was dry I brushed off the remaining salt crystals and was left with the salt water “blooms” in the ink.

I haven’t quite decided how I’m going to use it on a card, but I’ll probably put a large tree image (either stamped or die-cut) on it.

This one was inspired by many silhouetted meerkat cards I’ve seen on Pinterest and Facebook.  We applied Blueberry Bushel ink to the largest clear block SU! sells by pressing the stamp pad on it multiple times. Then we spritzed it with water and smooshed it onto a piece of watercolour paper that was also spritzed with water.  Then we sprinkled Kosher salt (larger crystals than table salt but smaller than the sea salt flakes) on it and let it dry.

Once it was dry and the excess salt brushed off we used the Stamparatus to stamp several images from The Gang’s All Meer (FREE with $90 purchase until March 31!)  in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto it multiple times to get a good impression on the textured, dark paper.  Then we coloured it in with the Dark Basic Black Stampin’ Blend Marker.  So cute!
